Help Me Test the Big Kick Page
In my ballet class, we practice an exhilarating movement called grand battement. It's
a big kick, literally and figuratively. This movement inspired me to create a new DHTML page
with animation effects achieved through the combination of JavaScript functions with
absolute positioning, a feature of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets).
The Big Kick Page looks great in my
browser (IE 5.5), but browser support for CSS is inconsistent. My new
page may not look right to you or other visitors. I've read many online articles, tutorials,
specs, charts, and FAQs, to learn more about browser support for CSS, but navigating this vast sea of info
has left me more confused than ever!
So I'm asking you to help me conduct my own browser test.
Please visit my Big Kick Page. Watch it until you are automatically returned here (about
a minute). Compare what you saw to the mini-preview at right and to the description
below. Then use the Feedback Form below to send me your report. Thanks!

Users of older Netscape browsers, please note! In response to your feedback about problems with viewing the Big
Kick Page, I have recently (4/22/02) revised the coding. If you couldn't see this page before,
please try again!

My Big Kick HTML now uses both LAYER tags and NOLAYER content. My Big Kick
script now includes functions designed to work with LAYERS as well as functions designed to work
with NOLAYER content, and a rudimentary browser sniffer. I hope these changes make the page just as
accessible for users of older Netscape browsers as it is for IE users and NN 6.x users.

Mini-Preview of Big Kick Page
The Big Kick Page animation should look like this, except that its much bigger and less repetitive

What You Should See
If your browser is JavaScript enabled
and fully supports CSS, here's what
you should see on the Big Kick Page:
- First, an image of a dancer appears against a black background with no text;
- Then decorative text begins to appear in different places at
different times;
- Some bits of text remain visible for 2 seconds, others for 1.5 seconds,
and others for only 1 second;
- Sometimes the bits of text overlap each other, and sometimes they don't;
- All of the text appears behind the dancer image, as shown in the
mini-preview;
- After these special effects have continued for about a minute, they stop
abruptly;
- Then you are automatically returned to this page.
If your browser does not fully
support CSS, you might not see all the images described above, or the images might not be
positioned in the way I've described. It's possible you might see nothing but a blank page!
Please use the Feedback Form at right to let me know about your experience of my Big
Kick Page. The information about your browser and operating system will be very
helpful to me.
